Advanced Placement
English Language and Composition
The Advanced Placement English Language and Composition exam is the second week in May. This exam determines if a student has the ability to earn college credit. A 3, 4, or 5 is considered a score worthy of college credit. Students in AP classes work diligently all year to score well on this exam. Any AP class IS a college class and the students are treated as college students. The curriculum is intensive, therefore AP student are expected to achieve above and beyond the regular high school student.
Each AP teacher has to submit a course audit to College Board and the course cannot be labeled AP until College Board approves the curriculum. Not only do the students spend a vast amount of time studying and applying skills learned in AP classes, but the teachers also donate most of their spare time to perfect their curricula for these classes.

PNC Concurrent Enrollment
North Newton offers Purdue University Northwest Concurrent Enrollment with AP classes. Students may earn 3 English credits for both semesters of English Language and Composition. Students enrolling in CEP have to fill out the proper forms before the deadline (given at the beginning of the year). Most college will accept PNC's credits, but students should check with their college's registrar for credit transfer.
